101. Focus on the Family

It is amazing the number of friends and family we have in Colorado – even more amazing in that a majority were enthusiastic about inviting us into their homes. At this point in our trip a simple “Thank you for your hospitality” seems woefully inadequate. Brent and I will never be able to express our gratitude. Our hosts Brian and Carol are no exception. They took the family to lunch at Fargo’s Pizza, they could not have picked better. The children (and parents) love pizza and this place offered reasonable personal pan pizzas so everyone got exactly what they wanted in just the right amount. The saloon type décor with a player piano made for a fun atmosphere.

Carol and Brian shared that the restaurant was built their senior year in high school. Carol is another of my mother’s cousins and sister to Teri with whom we just stayed. Another bit of trivia is that Carol and Teri’s father, “Uncle Gene” was a dean at Purdue, he gave both Brent and I our degrees when we crossed the stage at our college graduation.

Brian is an airline pilot and was able to allay some of Brody’s fears about flying in an airplane.

Before Brent left to drive and pick up the RV in Denver we visited the Focus on the Family headquarters. For the adults they had displays on their programs and media all with a goal to strengthen the family. Shockingly they had nothing about the benefits of living together in and RV and traveling for a school year. I should start writing a proposal for them.

For the children they had an adventure area based on the Adventures in Odyssey series. The children’s favorite part was the 3-story slide. Scarlet didn’t really make their height cut-off which was 5’9″. Let’s just ponder that.
